Unlike digging or dozing, bush hogging cuts growth, promoting regrowth and enriches the soil, rather than destroying all vegetation. It also cuts down invasive weeds at the root, preventing them from regrowing. They can also be used to mow down hay fields that have gotten too mature, and that you didn't get to mow in a timely fashion. This returns valuable organic matter to the soil.
